And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life – 1 John 5:20
I have always been intrigued at how much emphasis the Holy Spirit places on “understanding” the testimony of the Word of the Gospel. In our spilt world of dichotomy between faith and reason (which intrinsically embraces understanding); we seem to have lost our bearings of the one on the other, and seem to have neglected the one in our rather parochial pursuit of the other…a posturing that has resulted in a significant misalignment of reality in the eyes of many. This, I believe also, is part of the reason that many walk as hypocrites today…declaring with their lips knowledge of God and yet denying the power thereof.
From our scripture text for today, let us note this;
He came to give us an understanding!
I say, of all things!
Spiritual and Physical.
Heavenly and Earthly.
Of divine revelation and of empirical observation.
In Him we find the unification of all knowledge….wherein all variances are resolved and explained…wherein knowledge of truth is consistent with itself.
For this cause, we have the Helper, that we should receive understanding of all things that He has freely given us in Christ.
