1 John

Believe always that love is stronger

By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren – 1 John 3:16

We love because He first loved us. We love like He has asked us to…in the same manner he loved and continues to love us! For this is the new commandment He gave to us…that we should love one another like He loves us!

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Therefore, we must lay down our lives for the brethren. We must follow the instruction given by our Lord.

This means to love without holding back.
This means to bear the brunt of each other’s folly; of each other’s arrogance and sometimes, blistering stupidity.
This means to believe always that love is stronger….it can weather all the storms of hatred and apathy.
This means to walk always in the expression that love does not seek its own…it searches for and yearns for the interest of the other above its own; willing to walk the path of the pariah if that will cause the other to awaken to its infinite depths…this is love: always believing….always enduring….never giving up…love that never fails to love!

For it is the place of Love’s maturity and training to embrace pain, anguish, despair and not be twisted by it; to court hate and not be marred by its talons; to touch suffering and remain in all purity of being, unspotted. Glory to God!

This is the example we have received of Him. This has become our creed. Love born of God, at work in our hearts…carrying with it the full load of the strength and attributes of Divinity as it is in Jesus Christ…Agape indeed! It is the platform upon which we ought “to lay down our lives for the brethren”
