4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord – Psalm 4:4-5
How is it possible to truly live in utter dominion over sin? How shall we live now in this godless age? I reckon that for many of us, the constant struggles with the influence of sin seem to stretch out before our eyes into the most distant horizon. We look at ourselves and then look ahead, and resign ourselves to this seemingly endless battle. We hope only for release in death or at the second advent of our king if we are fortunate to hear the blast of the trumpets. Selah
But I see here a way to walk today in complete dominion over the influence of sin. I see here, a way to walk always going up…with no downs at all! He says “Stand in awe. And sin not…” I juxtapose this next to 1Corinthians 15:34… “Awaken to righteousness and sin not…”; and I see a matter established by the mouth of two witnesses!
Yes, it is possible to live today in complete dominion over sin. Yes, it is possible to stop falling on account of sin! Here we see the plainest testimony of scripture uttered by two witnesses…it is the birthright of every new creation to walk in complete righteousness right here right now! The how to do so is entirely hinged on “awakening to righteousness”… “standing in awe”….meaning to feast our eyes on the reality of the nature of righteousness we have in Christ; to know and tap into its power, and to walk henceforth leaning entirely on the staff of its might! Selah
So let us “commune with our own heart and be still”…having awakened to His righteousness…even the exceeding greatness of His power at work in us! And upon that lofty pedestal of revelation, let us make our abode, and lift up constantly the sacrifices of righteousness and complete devotion in trust to our Lord.
