In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Vs. 14 is a big One! Here I will ask some questions that will help us draw out fully from the wells of this truth.
1. What has the Blood of Jesus accomplished for us?
To the world of Adam, the blood of Jesus has caused a cessation of hostilities between God and man. Today, God is not angry with any man…even the sinner! This is because the suffering of Jesus for the world and the shedding of His Blood sufficed to satisfy all the wrath of God’s just judgment against Adam. Therefore it is truly peace to the world from the courts of heaven! It is no wonder II Corinthians 5:19 declares “….reconciling the world to himself not imputing their trespasses unto them!” it is because God is at peace with the world by the power of the blood of Jesus, that His grace can now reach out and seek to lift the many in Adam into the sublime realms in Christ. God is not angry with the world. No! Far from it! He sees the power of the blood of Jesus and recognizes what it has achieved. Now, the Father seeks with wide open arms that all of the sons of Adam in the world will come be gathered in One new man…even the Lord Jesus Christ! This is the Gospel! The Gospel of Peace! The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!
The blood of Jesus truly redeemed the whole world from the wrath of God’s just judgment! Selah.
To the New Creation, the Blood is that which made all the realities of Grace possible. For the covenant between God and the last Adam was for the second man, and all that will be found in Him, to become the object of interest of God’s grace and His Love. That covenant was ratified and brought into force by the blood of Jesus. The blood was and is the seal to the covenant…binding God and His throne to His Word of Promise to the last Adam…to supply all the riches of His Glory and Grace to the new man in Christ! Selah. Hebrews 9; Hebrews 10; Hebrews 13:20, 21.
Let us remember that “the old man” was purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ. This is redemption. It is real to the man who sees Jesus as the lamb slain for the sins of the world. But God did much more after that: for the old man redeemed was put to death in Jesus….he died! Then by the miracle of the operation of the Holy Spirit, the old man who was redeemed and died in Christ was born again of God! This time endowed by divine birth with a new life and nature in his spirit. This is the new creation! He is more than the man redeemed by the blood of Jesus. He is not the man who died in Jesus. He is the man born of God in Christ – made possible by the glorious resurrection of the second man Jesus; who was declared “the Christ” by the Father as Hebrews puts it “…thou art my son, this day have I begotten you!”…and Romans declares “…son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead!” Selah. Romans 5:6; Romans 5:8-10; Romans 6
