Reflections on 1John 1:8 – Part 2

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

3. SIN “the Influence”
This reality is what we see when we carefully study the 6th Chapter of the Book of Romans. Therein is sin the Influence revealed; which is the same influence referred to in this verse.

Rom 6:6-14 KJV [emphasis added]
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin (sin nature) might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.(the influence)
7 For he that is dead (whose nature of sin died in Jesus) is freed from sin (the influence)
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin (the influence), but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin (the influence) therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin (the influence): but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin (the influence) shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

And then we have the reference in I Corinthians 15:55, 56

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

This verses highlight sin the influence which shall be destroyed with Death and the Grave at the second advent of the King. Selah

I believe “sin” referred to in I John 1:8, is “sin the influence”.
Sin-the influence, is still with us today. Therefore we are admonished not to yield to it. Sin-the influence, is yet to be destroyed. It will be destroyed with Death at the second advent of the King.

“Therefore, if we claim to be without sin (the influence), we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” – New International Version [emphasis added].
