1 Peter · Exegesis of Light

Our position over sin in Christ

I Peter 4:1-4  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

Let us note Romans 6: 6, 7
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
For he that is dead is freed from sin.

This is where and how we know we are free from the influence of sin who was our previous slave master under the curse of Adam. Selah.
And then He says “arm yourselves likewise with the same mind!”
What does this mean?

Beloved, it is our revelation into this reality that brings with it the power to make tangible what is true in the Word-ruled realm of the spirit. It is awakening to the reality of our death in Christ and the subsequent result it wrought…..that of killing the spiritual nature of sin in us, and severing the strings of sin’s influence over us.

For the reason Adam sins is because he is by nature sin and is a slave to the influence of sin. The reason the child of God may sin is because of a lack of revelation – or sometimes deliberate disobedience – of the reality of his person, power and position in Christ. Selah.

Do note this: it is not a code of do’s and don’ts…it is not a fear of going to hell…it is not a trying with gritted teeth to overcome against all odds…Nay! These may take the child of God far away from committing sin but will not make him truly master over the influence of sin!

Let us see true in the Light and be lifted!
