1 Peter 3:1-2 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
In the same way that we are admonished to submit to “secular” authority today, the new creation woman who finds herself married to non-Christian Adam, should learn to submit to his authority.
The Wisdom here is this: By her voluntary submission and expression of Christ in her attitude, the Word of His Grace will be ministered to her non-regenerate husband and he can be won.
This calls for Wisdom in its practical application. For the context is clearly defined…a new creation woman married to a non-regenerate man. Just like the context in chapter two verses thirteen to twenty three is clearly defined: the church submitting to secular powers that be.
The word “Likewise” introducing chapter three verse one tells us that this is a continuation of the admonition in the same vein.
Should the Christian woman obey her non-Christian husband in everything?
Are there caveats and exceptions to this instruction?
May Wisdom instruct us deeply and lead us always into the triumph of victory!
