Colossians · Exegesis of Light

The Philosophy in Christ

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (Colossians 2:8)

The church has an almost natural aversion to the word philosophy. And rightly so, if you ask me. Much of the meaning of that word is steeped in the stench of atheistic thinkers. But the Kingdom and Lordship of Jesus has a philosophy. It has a worldview. It teaches a man certain ways and instructs him on certain postures of the mind; and infuses him with meaning on how the world came into being, how it came to be as it is today and where it is going. This is philosophy.

I realise a dearth in this instruction in many in the fold of the church today. Too many, of the Church, understand the worldviews of the world and lack basic insight into the “rudiments of Christ”. This simply ought not to be so. May it be that all of us – the church, embrace much more the ministry of the Teacher and be transformed in our minds as we embrace His worldview. Selah

I highlight two themes we could share our thoughts on:
– The Question of Reality
– Who is Man?
