…Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth [Colossians 1:6]
It is the gospel that came unto us and produced in us this fruit of the new creation. It is the gospel that has come to the world seeking to lift up from dead Adam, to the realm of God’s elect…God’s ecclesia. It is only the Gospel of Grace that truly lifts! I find it noteworthy the phrase – “…as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit…” Here, it would seem that we ought to recognise the impact of the Gospel in “the world”.
I see the Light lifting up from the world the Elect and also warming the world with outfits of the Kingdom- civilisation, justice, equity…
I have come to recognise that as “Light of the World” we have it as part of our responsibility to make the world better by impacting it with the fragrances and graces of the Heavenly City to which we belong.
We are constantly reminded of the dearth in heavenly ideals in arguably a significant proportion of humanity. I see this negatively impacting on many spheres of public engagement – moral, political, socio-economic. To this scarcity, in heavenly ideals and wisdom, I believe the Church must have influence to bring supply.
Selfishness is rife; too many men walk unrestrained by its rein. Sin is glorified in music and worshipped in dance moves. Morality is glossed over as its guiding points of references are constantly shifted by the whim of the individual… Righteousness, Truth and Justice seem to be buried in the casket of deliberate semantics. Who will answer? Who should lead the way? Who should show the world glimpses of the Kingdom to come?
I say let the Light shine! This calls for sophistication on our part. Too many of the fold of Christ lean back from the vigorous instructions into the Oracles of YHWH. Too many of us pay casual attention to the tutelage of the Holy Spirit. Too many of us remain “simple” in the mysteries of Christ.
There is a call to know the Grace of God indeed. A call to be deeply acquainted with all Truth in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. We should respond to this call with the utmost alacrity!
May the Words of Isaiah 50:4, 5 constantly ring true in our hearts!
