Not A Mere Man

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” [1 Corinthians 3:3]

How do mere men walk? They do so in carnality. They walk with their reality defined entirely by the sense ruled realm of the flesh. So they are carnal and full of envy towards each other. This is the unfortunate posture of the man in Adam and the new creation whose mind has not been fully transformed by the Word.

The local church in Corinth had a lot of the latter in their midst. The Apostle Paul sort maturity amongst them but found them lacking in significant measure. He sort the fruit of “Christ in you” among them but alas they seemed, at the time, satisfied to walk as mere men in carnality and selfish envy. There were too many “babes” who were deficient in the correct posturing of their minds. Therefore their expressions in thought, words and actions were constantly “carnal and selfish”.

O how many of God’s people stoop low for the crumbs of the kingdom bread…how many remain un-renewed in their minds…continuing within Zion in the beggarly life of carnality! The Holy Spirit calls for matured expressions of Christ in the Body!

The new creation is more than a mere man. He is the new man in Christ. He is born of God…partaker of His very life and nature…He is in the class of Deity! O hear the fiat of the Inspired Writ! …ye are of God!” ( I John 4:4)…” for His seed remains in him!” (I John 3:9). The new creation is not supposed to be carnal because he is more than a mere man!

The man in Adam is doomed to walk in carnality. He is the “man that is born of a woman…of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.”(Job 14:1-2.)

See how inseparably bound to despair this man in Adam is. O what dim pictures we see of the man in Adam! A collage of darkness and despair is what we see in this mere man. He is full of trouble. He has no hope in God and his life is short. He is disadvantaged by the vicissitudes of life and is a victim to the influence of sin and darkness. Then note verse four of Job fourteen “who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one”. Selah. Such is the description befitting the carnal man even Adam!

But it is a strikingly different picture we turn to as we look at the man in Christ. He is surely no mere man…he is “…born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever” (1 Peter 1:23). This is just beautiful!—to know that the new creation is born of an incorruptible seed. This is why the Holy Spirit says of the new man…” you are indestructible!; No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper!;.wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling (Hebrews 3:1)…”

The new creation is holy and is a participator in the God-life. Beloved, You are not ordinary so don’t act like one! What cannot destroy God cannot destroy you because you share in His life! This is absolute Truth!

I know, flowing from this Higher Ground of Reality, many will ask: why then do many new creations fall sick, die, and are subject to the same things that mere men are infirmed with? Why are many victims of life’s circumstances when indeed they ought to be victors…yea, more than conquerors?!

Well, the Scriptures give us insight into this observation. Let us pause and meditate on Psalms 82:5-7: “They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. I have said, ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.”

Ignorance of the truth concerning who the new creation is; what he has, and what he can do is the reason why many of God’s people walk as mere men and fall victims to this world.

Beloved, refuse to live any other life But the very life of God in you. You are no mere man! You are not really “only human”. There is Divinity in the New Creation!

Are you Born Again? Then pay heed to the Voice of the Holy Spirit…for He says “Awaken to this Reality and live the full expression of the Divine life!”
