Spiritual Education

“Some time ago I was asked to write an article on the Psychology of the New Birth. As I began to study the problem, I saw that there is no Psychology of the New Birth, for the New Birth is not mental, but spiritual.”( EW Kenyon). I couldn’t agree with him more….

Man is spirit, he has a soul and lives in a body. When a man comes into Christ, he is born again. His spirit is instantly recreated anew. Therefore he is called the new creation and is a member of the Body of Christ; His Church. Permit me to show you what the Scriptures tell us about this reality:

2 Corinthians 5:14-18
“For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: and that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God…….”

The reality of Jesus’s crucifixion, death and burial is made tangible in the new creation. In Him, I died. In Him, I was buried. And when He rose up from Death in the Glorious resurrection, I rose up in Him AS the new creation. This is true for every man who has awakened to and confessed the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

The new creation therefore is new in the truest sense of the word. For man is spirit. And when a man is born again, it is his spirit that gets changed. The new creation is Born of God and carries his life and nature. He is not the same person he was before he came to be found in Christ.

It is important that we know this Truth. For many of us, in Christ, we seem to continue to “know ourselves after the flesh”. We still define the truths about ourselves using the dimensions of our physical senses. We think we are disadvantaged because we come from a certain lineage “according to the flesh”….This ought not be so for the new creation. The Spirit declares the reality of our new birth. He says ” henceforth know we no man after the flesh”!

When you get born again, you still have the same nose and hair colour but your spirit (which is the real you) is where the real change took place. That means that after the new birth, you ought to know yourself in the light of the spiritual realities of God’s Word. Any man who judges the new creation “in the flesh” will err woefully….he will make wrong conclusions about the new creation because of the wrong light he is using to see.

The New Creation – who he really is,. What he can do, Where he comes from, Where he is headed – can only be truly discerned in the Light of the Word. Any other light distorts the true image.

This is truth: when God looks at the new creation, He sees your spirit – the new you. And so the Scriptures admonish us not to judge any man who is born again after his outward appearance or fleshly challenges. We ought to see beyond their flesh and admire their spiritual beauty and perfection with the eyes of the spirit.

Then Truth declares again: “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away”! You see, if you still look at that man in Christ in the light of the physical senses, you may conclude wrongly that he is still a “sinner”….because he still suffers incursions of sin and darkness on his person. But the Word of God does not lie! And Scripture tells us emphatically that this man is a new man and that old things are indeed passed away. Then he adds behold, all things are become new. Wow! All things and not some things. Glory to God! Then he continues and says “..and all things are of God…”. Glory! He says all these things that are become new are of God. There’s nothing man-made as far as the new creation is concerned. Everything about the new creation is 100% spiritual (Ye are of God – 1John 4:4). You see when you begin to see yourself and others with the eyes of the spirit based on this understanding, you will start making confessions consistent with this new nature and position in Christ; this is the how to make physically tangible the spiritual realities we see about ourselves in the light of the Word. We must remember always that all God sees as far as the new creation is concerned is manifestly declared in His Word….and O! How beautiful their countenance…How resplendent their faces shine with the Kings light- that kind of man Born of God!   Selah…

Now because the new man is born of the Word of God, he has need to stay in the Word in order for him to grow up to maturity in Christ. This requires a deliberate effort on his path to give himeself to the fellowship of the Word and the tutelage of the Holy Spirit. This enrollment into the School of Holy Spirit is what I term Spiritual Education.

Every man born of God has the privilege to be tutored by the Holy Spirit into the Oracles of God. I say this is Awesome. I say this is Glorious! I say this is the birthright of every child of God. O boy! See the Vision! To be fully constituted with the Oracles of God! To fellowship in oneness with the King of Kings!

Without this Spirtual Education the new creation will remain carnal and his expressions in thought, word and actions will not be consistent with his new nature. Remember that before one became born again, he had a certain mindset and lived a certain kind of life but after the new birth he ought to yield himself to be schooled to posture aright his mind frame to ensure the expression to the fullest the Heavenly call. This is the how to live the different and higher life in the spirit. Romans 12:2.

Let us learn a few lessons from the Garden of Eden where Spiritual Education began. Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 2:15-17; Genesis 3:1-11
Kindly study the scriptures indicated above  carefully. In Genesis 1:26-28, God created man and blessed man and made pronouncements over his life. All the information man ever had was from God. Man had no other source of information except God. Again in Genesis 2:15-17, God instructs man on what to eat and what not to eat. He tells man not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. So again we see here that God was man’s only source of information because we are not told of any other place where a being or thing spoke to man before the fall. Then in Genesis 3:1-11, the serpent [devil] began to speak to man. So man now had another source of information-the devil. The devil came in and twisted everything God had told man and succeeded in deceiving man to do the very thing which God had instructed him not to do. People of God, it matters what you hear and most importantly, it matters from whom or where you hear what. This is the reason why you cannot listen to some kinds of music as a child of God. You do not wake up in the morning as a child of God and first thing you do is tune in the radio and begin to soak some information. You have to be loaded with the Word always, so you can fight the good fight of faith (where you stand up against any contrary voice and allow only that which is consistent with the Father’s will to stay). So eventually, man ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Let us see how things unfolded afterwards. Genesis 3:6-11 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou? And he said I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, who told thee that thou wast naked? Has thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?”

Hitherto, man had always been naked but was unaware of his physical state. This is because man received his education from Papa God alone and all that God had told him was all that he knew, nothing more nothing less. And God had never told man that he was naked. Man was living in the word-ruled realm of the spirit where he received Spiritual Education from his Father. As a matter of fact, man was made to live primarily by the word of God only. All that God told man was all that man was to know. Now, here came the devil and got man to disobey God because man listened to his lies. Then the bible says, “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” How did they know they were naked this time around because really, they had been naked all this while but like I said earlier were unaware of their physical state because of the realm from where they functioned-the word-ruled realm of the spirit. Man now had become aware of his senses because he had fallen from the word-ruled realm of the spirit to the flesh-ruled realm of the senses. His senses had now become his teacher. Check the response God gave man after man had become sensual and spoken of his physical state. “And he said, who told thee that thou wast naked? Has thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?” God asked man how he came by that information that he was naked. God asked man because He had never told man he was naked. God knew immediately that man had turned on his senses by disobeying Him. He knew that another source of information had come in and from that time on, there has been a constant battle between the spirit and the flesh in terms of who gains dominance in a man’s life.

Galatians 5:16,17 “This I say then, walk in the spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

As a new creation, desire to be fully instructed in the school of the spirit; do not miss your times of  fellowship with the Holy Spirit in the Word. For He is our Helper who shall bring us to Truth.

Unfortunately, our generation is a sense-ruled generation where our lives are so governed by what we can feel, taste, see, touch, hear and smell. Anything outside our senses is not appreciated by our generation.

In the school of the spirit, you learn to hold God’s testimony/witness/report in high esteem above all others.
1 John 5:9 “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater…..” If Adam and his wife had upheld the witness of God above that of the devil, they would have won against the devil. What the doctor tells you is not final as far as your case is concerned. Check the Word to find out what God also says concerning your case and let the spirit gain the ascendancy in your life.

In the school of the spirit, you learn to take God at His word. Just like that! That means you not having money in your pocket does not make you poor for the Word says, all things are yours and Jesus became poor that you might be made rich. What the media reports as regards the economy and the falling currency are not final as far as you are concerned because we live by the economy of God. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”-Philipians 4:19. Our supply from God is not dependent on the trending state of the economy but according to his riches in glory. Awesome!

God asked Adam, “who told you that you are naked?” Child of God, I have a question for you; who told you, that you are broke? Who told you, that you are sick? Who told you, that you are unrighteous? Is it God? The answer is an emphatic no because we know from His Word, His will and plans for us. He says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health…..” This is what God is saying to us so anything contrary to this is definitely not part of the curriculum in the School of the Spirit.
